The Kleiss Difference is in the Results
Solving industry gear problems is our specialty
Automotive/ Transportation
The Kleiss Gears exotic polymer program has partnered with the major polymer vendors of today to improve research and development activities. This is an example of a molded PEEK polymer gear that we developed for the automotive industry to replace a ground metal AGMA 10 gear - resulting in a less expensive, lighter weight component with improved mass performance.
Throttle Body Gears
Where safety is involved, you will find Kleiss Gears. The optimization of the polymer gear train reduces support and extends the life of the products produced. For automotive drive by wire applications, reduced support translates into increased safety - guaranteeing that components perform to their original specifications throughout an entire lifetime of utilization.
HVAC Controls
Many customers seek out Kleiss Gears to improve on prior sub-standard designs in polymers. This HVAC example was one of those projects. The previous polymer gears could not withstand the rigors of industrial life in the cab or on the farm. Kleiss Gears' engineering and tooling provided a component that reduced premature failure in this area control.
Label Printer
Ninety-five percent of all polymer gears made today are metal gear designs made in plastic, resulting in many problems which Kleiss Gears solves for our customers. The first issue is improved strength beyond what is experienced today. The second issue is an improved load transfer in the transmission, and finally reduction in audible mesh sound generation. These all point to the value of Shape Optimized Gear Design, which specifically addresses the issues in moving from metal to polymer gears. This is an example of a gear that we designed for a label printer.
Fishing Motor Orbital Gear
You may think of a gear as just a gear, but there are many unique transmission designs which cannot be made in metal - the orbital system is just one example. This transmission has an unusually high speed reduction in a simple small package. It also exhibits high torque characteristics. So, if you are looking for unique technological innovation in a transmission, look to Kleiss Gears for your partner.
Pencil Sharpener
Not all projects are destined to be manufactured by Kleiss Gears in Wisconsin. However, no matter what your production financial strategy is, we are here to provide working systems and support those systems worldwide. We provided the gear design for this pencil sharpener, with the final gears produced in China. Portability is another unique difference that you experience when you choose Kleiss Gears.
Lawn Sprinklers
There is not a device quite at complicated with technology as the lawn sprinkler. Lawn sprinklers, such as this example from Rain Bird, need to withstand water of all impurity levels and stay in operation for long periods of time. The repeatable performance of these devices is legendary - who wants non-consistent striping on their golf green or front lawn?
Vacuum Cleaners
Kleiss Gears assists the consumer products industry with quietness in operation along with strength building design - dramatically lowering field support issues. This example designed for Royal Appliance provided a solution to breaking gears and consumer noise complaints that they experienced with their previous gears. The redesigned gearing for this model, marketed exclusively by Sears, brought the transmission into compliance and consumer approval. Smoother, longer life is the Kleiss Difference.
John Deere Industrial Agriculture Transmission
Kleiss Gears put their mind to solving a huge support and replacement issue for John Deere. Previously, this transmission would have to be replaced and/or lubricated on a periodic basis, leading to wear and down-time efficiency issues. After a polymer redesign, this transmission needs no lubrication and runs for the life of the corn planter in which it is installed. Kleiss Gears moves polymers into an application which required a performance transfer of torque at 2,000 ft-lbs.
Anesthetic Infusion Pump
Kleiss Gears is making a difference in the world of medicine. In this example, Kleiss' renowned precision ensures the exact delivery and repeatability required for today's rigorous standards in medicine. This pump is used to help stabilize trauma patients after critical accidents until they can reach remote medical facilities. The Kleiss difference is precision.
Gear Pump
This project was a first for Kleiss Gears - requiring a virtual fabric concept where the flatness and true position of all services were machine described and implemented into tooling. The objective of the development was to build a repeatable gear pump to deliver up to 5 psi while providing 1.5 L/min flow rates without secondary operations. The result is pump ready from the press and delivered to the OEM.
Bradley Fighting Vehicle M2A3/M3A3
Even the US military relies on Kleiss Gears for precision equipment to protect our fighting men and women. This ultra-accurate sector gear is 100% guaranteed to 0.0001" accurate on each and every tooth in each and every gear to make sure that the Bradley hits what it's aimed at.
Pleo was the hit of the 2007 Christmas season. Marketed as a "Life Form", Ugobe brings a robotic creature to life in the modern world. Kleiss worked with Ugobe on design issues for 110 gears in 11 transmissions to get life-like action and movements from this little robotic dinosaur. The engineering intent was to make Pleo's motions smooth, quiet and efficient to produce the most life-like robot possible. The Kleiss difference is the realization of engineering intent.

Barney - Microsoft's Pet
Barney was with Kleiss Gears a little later in his development after problems surfaced in the initial manufacture of the interactive TV doll. Barney was just too noisy for the kids, and his arms would lock up at inopportune moments - destroying the entire illusion. With the redesign of the gear train, Kleiss Gears brought the reality back to Barney.
